The text I will writing about is Medical apartheid By Harriet T Washington thesis: Black women are treated so poorly espically with in the health care system.

In this essay I hope to open every ones eyes to the problem that no one seems to talk about or notice. The points I want to adress is how hospitals need to take better care of Black women their have been numerous events where a African American woman has went into the hospital and was told that she wasn’t a priority couple seconds later she died  the health care system has been failing African women through history their have been articles written about it  but their is no action and the problem is being ignored.  I was desired to do this research because I am a African American women and we have been mistreated for years  and it’s still happening Black women have done so much through out history their is so much historical women like Sojourner truth, Harriet Tubman and Maya Angelou and this society treats us as if we don’t even matter and now they are trying to kill us off. I Wrote this thesis to give my readers a idea of what I am going to be talking about my thesis is important because it  gives you insight  of the issue I will be adressing. I plan to explore the statement in my research by  sugar coding anything and my evidence and opinions will be clear and uncut because I am a Black Women and I know how it feels to be mistreated because of the color of our skin.

In paragraph 28 when Nguyen says ”I would like to make a broad accurate statement about immigrant children in schools I would like to speak for them (us).I hesitate: I cannot I think she means she cant speak for every immigrant because they all have different experiences even though they all might be immigrants you don’t if they each went through the same thing. Nguyen cant make a ”broad accurate statement because what she went through as a immigrant can be different from what some one else went through as a immigrant.  In paragraph 28 she also says ”Still, I think of an Indian friend of mine who told an elementary school experience in which blond school child told the teacher ” I cant sit by her. My mom said I cant sit by any one whos brown”. And another friend, whose family immigrated around the same time mine did, whose second grade teacher used her as vocabulary example Children, this is what a foreigner is”. with that being said Nguyen was trying to point out that she cant speak for every immigrant because  not every immigrant has the same story.

In Lincolns Gettys Burg address and John F. Kennedy ” inaugural address” they both state points that show they will help the nation as a whole and they both think the untied has problems they need to solve and their mostly based off equality and liberty. In Lincolns ”Gettys burg address” he think the unites states needs to have more equality  and freedom in his speech he says ”that this nation under god shall have a new birth of freedom” he also talks about showing devotion to the fallen solider’s . In John F. Kennedy’s speech he talks about having liberty in the unites states ”let every nation know,…that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty this much we pledge-and more”. The united states has not solved these problems cause their is no form of equality or liberty within this country their are to many innocent African Americans dieing for no reason their is also no justice or fairness in the legal system. We need to start implementing equality and liberty in this country if not its gonna get worse over the years.

the narrative suggest that literature/reading can stimulate your mind as it did for Malcom X  but  our   freedom can sometimes be  a distraction and hinder us from getting  more into  literature Malcom x even said  it he said ”one of the biggest troubles with college  is their are to many distraction’s  also he says ”where else  but in prison could I have attacked my ignorance by being able to  study intensely sometimes as much as fifteen  hours a day”. Malcom X was locked up but reading helped him feel mentally free and alive,  even though he did not have have freedom he had more time to develop his mind and get more into his reading.  In his narrative he said  ” my reading of books months passed with out even thinking about being imprisoned  In fact up to then, I never been so truly free in my life”.   Malcom X  was trapped but literature made every day feel like he was free  the days in prison was just passing by him he didn’t even realize cause he was so in tuned to literature. Once you find the right book or the right piece of literature you could feel so calm not only physically but mentally it just relaxes you and no matter where you are whether your in a confined place or in a place where you cant get out reading can make you feel free.

In the text ”Mother Tongue by Amy Tan language played a role in Amy Tans life because she grew up with a mother who didn’t know proper  English and she  was her mother’s communication. Language shaped her own perception of herself because it changed how she expressed her self,  the text  state’s  ”its my mothers tongue Her language, as I hear it, is vivid direct….that was the language that helped shape the way I saw things expressed things, made sense of the world”. Language helped Amy Tan become the writer she wanted to be and it made her realize to embrace where she came from. Amy Tan became aware of her own language biases  in the beginning of the text when she explains how she uses proper English when speaking in public rather than speaking how her own ethnicity/background speaks. Amy  then became  aware of other peoples English biases when she was in school, she saw  that society pushes Asians away from English and pushes them more into science and math. In the text she says ”ASIAN-AMERICAN students whose English spoken at home in the home might also be described as ”broken” or limited. And perhaps they also have teachers who are steering them away from writing and into math and science”. Amy Tans realizes her own language biases when she only speaks her language around her mom she then realizes other peoples English biases when society doesn’t accept  her native language they only accept the proper English.

I think if you know English fluently and well then yes you would know the language being used around you but if you don’t know English fluently you cant understand  what people are saying to you cause you don’t know if the language they are using is good or bad. I am always aware of the English that’s being used around me that’s the language that I grew up with and that I am used to so its easy for me to understand what the people around me are saying.

Posted by Asya Parson on

Hello my name is Asya Parson my name is spelled A-S-Y-A but its pronounced as Asia like the continent I am a nursing major. I am excited to start the class because I do feel like I have progressed as a writer and I still have some flaws in my writing but I am hoping this class will help me receive some critiques that would help improve my writing. I am mostly nervous about the test and finals cause test could make me nervous some times. The qualities of good writing is to make sure your writing make sense and your using all the correct grammar another good quality of good writing is making sure your getting the readers attention cause no one want to read something that is boring. In order to be a good writer you have to be able to take criticism from other good writers cause that’s how you get better also to be a good writer you gotta be focused and know what your writing about you gotta think about what your writing don’t rush. Its important to know how to write well because eventually in some point of your life your going to go out into the professional world and your going to be asked to write something weather its your signature or a paragraph writing tells how you think and how you speak your writing could tell a lot about you.The easiest part of writing for me is the hook I find it really easy and fun when I am trying to bring my readers in and make them more interested in what I am writing. The hardest part of writing to me is sometimes I move to fast in my writing and my grammar is all over the place. I am going in a career for nursing I don’t think there is a specific genre that you write in nursing ,being a effective writer can effect my career opportunities because knowing how to write is fundamental in life your writing could tell a lot about you.
